H.L. I discovered GHERZEN with their overwhelming melodic black metal album "1881" and so it was a quick decision to add the epic debut "1917" to my collection as well. This is also an album to fall into, to indulge in the dense Eastern European melancholy I know and appreciate from bands like Sivyj Yar, Khors or Kladovest. "1917" is varied and dynamic and most of all simply beautiful. Check for example the mighty "Killing Fields". Favorite track: The Killing Fields.

Yawning Druid Absolutely incredible folk style black metal in the vein of old Drudkh. You can hear the anguish of the album's concept in every moment. Favorite track: Mаss Mаdness.

Blackatmospheric Great atmospheric black metal in the vein of Kladovest and Drudkh. Highly recommended if you are a fan of those bands. Favorite track: Green Squаd.

Russian Gherzen’s debut album “1917”, released back in 2016, very quick became one of the most successful COD releases. Participants of famous Elderwind wrote an amazing atmospheric black metal album which was very warmly received by listeners around the world. Conceptually it is decided to the controversial events of the Russian past in the beginning of 20th century which completely changed the face of our country and a course of world’s history. For now, the initial run of CDs is almost sold out (we have only 5 copies in stock!) and we prepared a limited cassette edition on red cassettes in cardboard boxes with foldout inserts.

The flame of discord devours human destiny. Scythe of the civil war satisfies death hunger, not skipping a single family. The year 1917 had plunged Russia in bloodshed and destruction for a long time and it led to the collapse of the age-old way of life, traditions and practices.

In the debut album, the group Gherzen is not trying to find who was right and who is wrong. The tragedy of the common man and the entire nation together with him and is at the forefront here. Echoes of those fierce days resound in monumental atmospheric Black Metal inspired by the classic works of Burzum and Drudkh.

Mikolaj is a real multi-talent in bass as well as guitar as well as vocals and "Darkside" Maciej's drumming is a well-calibrated 100th-of-seconds-clockwork. I'd say Havukruunu is the rightful holder of the Crown and the mantle of Quorthon. Epic choirs, vikingesque themes and tales from the other times, of the Finnish paganism back in the days before our ancestors were brought to the cross and forced to kneel while feeling the bloody sword of saviour on their throats made to kiss the hand of murderers who burnt thousands, tore down our holy places and took our holy days.
